Satisfied
Customer Reviewer: Miguel 06-19-2004 I first started as a
guest member. From day one the staff at both locations near my home were very
friendly. They showed me around the facility, offered me a towel, and were there
everytime I had a question. I really enjoyed the basketball courts and how
friendly everyone is about playing pickup games. After a few weeks I had lost
weight and didn't even know it. I was just going there and having fun then
people started telling me about how great I looked and how I have lost weight. I
recommend this place!

Great Place Great
Price Reviewer: Oscar 07-22-2004 This place is cheaper
than the other gyms and the staff is there to help you out. Whether you are
there to lose weight or just maintain or build muscle then this is the best
place to go. Take my advice you will like it there.

Big name fitness
center = $$$ Reviewer: Salvador 04-22-2004 the cost is
too high. I see that on their official website there is an offer for 3months
$149...that is $50 a month! ha! what a joke. There is a gym closer to my house
that is almost half that price. Look around. Although i agree that fitness
centers are a great thing...i recommend a gym with a lower price per month.

convinient
locations Reviewer: Mike 07-22-2004 I have been a member
since Oct. 2000 and I love that there are 24 hour fitness centers in almost
every city. No matter what city I travel to I can be certain that there is one
there.

I have tried many
fitness centers Reviewer: Nadia 05-22-2004 I enjoy
working with a personal trainer. I have found that the best fintess center for
trainers is not Ballys or LA Fitness...its 24HR Fitness! I don't mind paying the
amount I do per month as long as I have a trainer that knows what he/she is
doing.

There is 24 hr
fitness center everywhere Reviewer: Luis 06-25-2004 that
is the best feature. I recommend this place. You will lose weight and feel
great. In southern CA alone I know of 5 different locations with a few miles of
my house.

Horrible
Experience Reviewer: Susy 06-11-2004 I can't drive by a
24-hour fitness without feeling my blood boil! My story is similar. My son
& I "belonged" to Family Fitness 1 mile from home. 24-hour fitness took
over, closed our Family Fitness & opened a new building another mile
away. Okay. I figured we automatically belonged to the new one since they
still *removed* $$$$$ from my checking account every month. WRONG! Well, a
year(?) or so went by when we never even went to the gym, just kept paying.
Then my husb's work offered discounts on 24-hour Fitness and he signed up,
adding to our *family* membership. He was ASSURRED by the salesperson that
all three of us could attend ANY 24-Hour Fitness anywhere, anytime! Nope.
We aren't allowed into our neighborhood gym without paying an
additional $99 apiece (sale price!). I think it is 24-Hour Fitness's way
of "disposing" of the long-time memberships (unprofitable) they
inherited from Family Fitness. The one we can go to is 4 or 5 miles away.
They get away with this robbery by (probably took their attorneys a day
or two to figure out) calling certain (elite) clubs "Sports" facilities
in order to collect more fees from people with long-term Family
Fitness memberships (IMHO). I can't find my contract; the main office
said they'd even send me a copy and never did. To make matters
more aggravating, the "Jocks" that are in charge of the gyms are so rude!!
I can't think of another company as bad as 24-Hour Fitness. One
manager even hung up on me. He didn't want to hear my story; I'm sure
he's heard the same one many, many times. Sooner or later, I think we'll
see it on one of those TV news magazines. We should do more than spread
the word. 20/20, where are you???

My
experience Reviewer: steve 06-18-2004 Years ago they
built a club in downtown L.A. where my wife works. My wife and I were already
members and, though we never liked the club much we maintained our membership
because the deals are structured so that you pay a fortune up front, and if
you're still around after the initial period it gets cheap, because they know
that the everage member lasts about two weeks and then disappears but keeps
paying on their membership. Anyway, they told my wife that this was an
"executive" club which was going to be much fancier than normal, and she'd have
to pay another $150 a year on top of her regular

Thinking About
Joining? Reviewer: Jerry 07-22-2004 Thinking about
joining 24-Hour Fitness Center (or any others)? Here's a personal account
that you may be interested in:
Currently, 24-Hour Fitness Center is
advertising a "Limited Time Only" sale of five days -- they've been running
this ad for the past three or four weeks now!
You see, last month I
went out to the Grand Opening of the Mililani facilities, and inquired on a
membership. I found out that they had "Special Rates" good until the end of
October only....these special rates were:
$99 enrollment (or $199 for the
deluxe plan) $49 processing $29 a month
According to the
salesperson I spoke with, the enrollment and monthly fees would be doubled
come November.
But it never happened. It is now November 25, and the
rates actually seem to be a lot BETTER.
I've discovered that fitness
centers sell memberships in much the same way as automobile dealerships sell
cars....they advertise cheap rates, create hype, and try to get you to
commit right on the spot. They even used the "take-over" sales method on
me!
Yup...after an hour of negotiating, I signed up with the Mililani
facility. I even signed up my wife under the deluxe plan. Spent nearly $500
on that rainy October day.
In the past, I was a member of 1)
International Fitness Center, 2) the Spa, and 3) Atkinson YMCA gym. I've
never felt like I was buying a car when signing on as a new gym
member...until last month. So if any of you are thinking about joining
24-Hour Fitness, think of it as buying a car. You'll be more on your toes,
and likely to save money in the long run.
Otherwise, you'll find yourself
"cheerfully" dishing out $500 for membership for two.
(P.S. Other
than that, 24-Hour Fitness is a great place. Though the Mililani facility
isn't complete yet, I like the ambiance. The atmosphere, for the most part,
is conducive to getting a good workout. Can't wait til they open up the
day-care facilities so I can bring my 2 year-old boy with me!)
